Dr. Julian P. Keogh - Translator, Writer and Academic Consultant
Dr. Julian P. Keogh is an experienced medical translator (German to English) and advisor for medical and scientific professionals seeking publication of their work in peer reviewed journals.
Amongst the services he can offer include:
German to English translation of biomedical texts (biomedical abstracts, reviews and original manuscripts), marketing and administrative documentation for pharmaceutical companies (including those that need to be compliant with EMEA etc.) , reports (clinical, pharmacological toxicological), translation of clinical trial documentation and protocols, translation of medical textbooks and texts, oriented both towards professionals and lay persons.
Editing and proofreading of the above-mentioned texts. Checking not just for linguistic errors, but also technical errors e,g, in methodological descriptions, and logical inconsistencies. Dr. Keogh can act as an interim “Peer reviewer” to promote the chances of publication
Text crunching of the above wherever required, taking care to retain the intended meaning of the original text. Clarification of text and removal of verbosity if desired.
Medical writing and review writing from compilations of original manuscripts. Literature research and summarization. Meta and statistical analysis.
Teleconferencing via Skype: english tuition for academics and critical advice for seminar delivery
Much of the abovementioned work requires a direct relationship between the client and customer without the lack of understanding that plagues the use of intermediary project managers in, for example, larger translation companies.
Dr. Keogh often understands the needs of his clients. The drafting of tests for internal company use may not require the same diligence as the writing of texts intended for publication. Much text for internal use may also be superfluous (e,g, letter headers and footers, irrelevant blocks of text). Many different standard operating procedures (SOPs) are almost identical and only differ with respect to a number of chemical names, or the volumes of reagent which need to be added. We obviously apply a discount in such a situation to reflect these differences.
Dr. Keogh prides himself by the fact that Pharmacad Services is a small company that endeavours to call upon the services of other academics when capacity demands require this. All work carried out here ultimately goes through the eye of an academic (usually Dr. Keogh himself) before it is delivered to the client.
INDEMNIFIER
Dr. Keogh carries out his work to the best of his abilities and to the highest of professional standards. He has over 20 years of experience in getting manuscripts into print. Ultimately, however, he can provide no guarantee of publication due to the nature of the peer review process itself. Peer reviewing tasks are often delegated to junior academic staff who are often inexperienced in publishing themselves, and experienced reviewers may be plagued with their own prejudices, both reasonable and unreasonable, as regards the scientific work or validity of a manuscript submitted for publication.
